I'd like to talk about my aunt, who is exceptionally good at making things by hand. She works as an accountant during the week, but in her spare time¹, she is a passionate craft maker. In fact, she has turned a small room in her apartment into a cosy workshop. She mainly makes fabric items, such as tote bags², cushion covers, and small purses. My favourite thing she has made³ is a light-blue backpack for my younger cousin. It has a neat floral pattern, several useful pockets, and even a tiny hand-stitched name label. She also creates handmade cards and decorations for family birthdays and festivals, so her gifts always feel much more personal than shop-bought ones. In terms of materials⁴, she usually uses cotton fabric, felt, colourful thread, buttons, ribbons, and recycled paper. She owns a basic sewing machine, but she does many of the detailed parts by hand, especially embroidery and stitching. Before starting a project⁵, she often sketches a design on paper and watches online tutorials to learn new techniques. I think she is so talented because she is patient, creative, and extremely detail-oriented. She never rushes her work; if a line of stitching looks uneven, she will undo it and sew it again. More importantly, she can transform ordinary materials into practical and beautiful objects. Whenever I see something she has made, I can tell how much care and thought she has put into it⁶. That is why I genuinely admire her hand-making skills.
